December Daily Prep
It’s that time again. Time to gather all the stuff of scrapbooking together, time for planning with the best of intentions. I usually start my December daily journey watching a ton of videos, taking many classes, purchasing the latest “stuff” from various online and physical shops, then doing very little.
Last year I made more pages than usual. I even dusted off my silhouette machine and purchased a foiling machine. The foiling machine is loads of fun to use.
I have the Minc machine by Heidi Swapp. I think it is actually called a laminating machine, not foiling; anyway the foil adheres to toner on a page so it will only work with toner based printers and not an ink jet printer.
The silhouette I found a little more difficult to get used to. There is a learning curve, but once you get used to it. You will be cutting all sorts of things from various shapes, alphas, cards, tags, it’s endless.
I virtually attended the December Daily Prep Day by Ali Edwards
It is an all day online affair. Usually jam packed with crafty ideas for your holiday memory keeping. This year Ali was joined by Laura Wonsik, the Stamping Queen and Pam Baldwin Scrapper and Paper Crafter Extraordinaire, as moderators. Pam Baldwin introduced various ink jet transfer projects to put on T shirts, banners, door hangers or whatever you could think of.
The day of, there was a drawing of a head that we were encouraged to fill in and fill up with what we would like our Christmas season to be this year
We could also take part in a challenge during the course of the day. It actually consisted of eight different challenges one of which was to revisit old December Daily projects for inspiration. I found this origami Christmas tree that I made for my 2007 album!
I may have to revise this tree and use it again this year. I want to use it as a border like I have going across the top of this post, on a journal card or as a cover to a flip up/ out page.
We were challenged to come up with a way to get organized in preparation for December Daily. I gathered all my DD 2020 and 2021 booty in one place and used a small recycled box from work to contain it all. It is not pretty or crafty; it is just practical. Now all of the physical “stuff” I want to pull from is in one place. I think I finished or thought about 5 out of the eight challenges:
- Choose one of the workflow or organization tips and implement it.
- Look through a past album and identify a spread that represents your style
- Create your own ink swatch
- Create a hybrid page
- Practice your ‘zine folding skills
If you want to know the specifics of the challenge and find out what the remaining three challenges were, head over to Ali Edwards website and sign up for December Daily 2021 Prep Day class. It was all recorded, so it remains for your viewing pleasure.
